Travailler avec plusieurs Firefox simultanément
⚠️ Mise à jour de ce tuto le 20 août 2018 🔗
Pour ouvrir un second Firefox (ou un Aurora) en même temps que le Firefox en cours d’exécution, il faut se créer un second profil et, pour Windows, le plus simple c’est de copier le raccourci vers Firefox (ou Aurora) et d’y mettre comme cible (clic-droit sur l’icône puis clic sur Propriétés) :
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p profil -no-remote
Vous pouvez aussi créer un raccourci vers un fichier .bat qui devra contenir :
cd /d "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" set MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 start firefox.exe -p profil
À personnaliser avec le chemin vers le dossier d’installation du Firefox en cause et avec le nom du profil choisi dans le gestionnaire de profils lors de sa création.

Pardonnez ma question de newbie, mais en lançant deux fois “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe”, je n’ai pas déjà deux Firefox distincts ? Votre manip’ permet d’ouvrir deux sessions différentes ?
@Jean-Baptiste : Si par exemple tu cliques sur un raccourci Firefox alors que Firefox est déjà ouvert, ça ouvre seulement une nouvelle fenêtre. Tu n’as qu’un seul processus et une seule session de navigation.
Avec l’astuce ci-dessus tu as deux processus de Firefox totalement distincts.

Encore plus simple faire un raccoucis avec par exemple comme addresse :
“C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox” -p profil -no-remote
J’ai 3 raccourcis comme ça. :D

Cela fait un an que j’utilise Chrome dans mes recherches professionnelles et me réserve Firefox pour le loisir, mais leur gestions beaucoup moins bonnes des marques pages m’embêtait, sans compter que je préfère ne règle générale Firefox. Maintenant, je peux utiliser Firefox pour les deux !

Créer un fichier .bat a-t-il un intérêt ? J’ai déjà mes deux raccourcis sur le bureau Windows…
Par contre, quelque chose pourrait vraiment m’aider : comment épingler les deux raccourcis différents à la barre des tâches sur Windows 7 ? Lorsque j’épingle un des deux, je ne peux pas mettre l’autre car pour Windows, il y est déjà ?

Non, en règle générale les raccourcis doivent suffire.
Je n’ai pas résolu ce problème non plus. Le second raccourci est sur le bureau. Peut-être ajouter une nouvelle barre d’outils pourrait servir de solution de contournement…
Ouvrir deux instances de Firefox c’est assez simple (merci pour l’article !), mais comment peut-on ouvrir un lien ou un fichier dans une instance précise via la ligne de commande ?
Par exemple, si j’ai un Firefox stable et un Nightly-australis, comment puis-je faire en sorte qu’un lien glissé sur le raccourci Nightly s’ouvre dans Nightly, et un lien glissé sur Firefox s’ouvre dans Firefox ?
PS : pour avoir des icônes différentes (au moins sous Linux…) on peut aussi utiliser l’argument “class”, cf. http://www.chevrel.org/carnet/?post…
